The Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament is the motherchurch of the Archdiocese of Detroit.
As of 2005, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit covers the City of Detroit as well as Lapeer, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, and Wayne counties, Michigan.
The Diocese of Detroit, erected on March 8, 1833, was elevated to Archdiocese on May 22, 1937.
