Rolf Herman Nevanlinna (October 22, 1895, Joensuu - May 28, 1980, Helsinki) is perhaps the most famous Finnish mathematician. He was particularly appreciated for his work in theory of functions (i.e., complex analysis). Apart from mathematics, Nevanlinna took great interest in culture and politics. His opinions in politics were sometimes somewhat controversial, but his talents as an amateur musician were widely appreciated.
