The Revelation of Arès is a supernatural revelation in Arès, France, allegedly received by Michel Potay in the 1970s. As a result of this revelation, a small group of followers considers Potay a prophet. The revelation consists of 40 "Apparitions" received in 1974 and spoken by Jesus, as well as 5 "Theophanies" received in 1977 and spoken by God. Potay's followers consider this revelation to be the most important since the Bible and the Qur'an. The revelation is published in a book entitled The Revelation of Arès.
Summary of the revelation
The Revelation of Arès recalls the roots of monotheism, in order to recreate and dynamise spiritual life, which is thought to be the fundamental task of any prophet. The basic message is that humanity will not gain happiness by any rigid, dogmatic, legalistic, ideological, political, scientific, financial, nationalistic, theological, etc., system, but by simply recreating himself good, becoming once again the positive image and likeliness of the Creator, thus redeeming himself and recreating Eden, here on earth.
The Revelation of Arès refers to various prophets prior to Michel Potay, including Zarathushtra (Zoroaster), Abraham, Moses, Isaiah, Jesus, and Muhammad in a unique way. The Revelation incites Potay's faithful followers to accomplish all their respective messages in a spiritual and virtuous harmony with this recent Revelation. It proposed that every person may become a prophet by delegation, e.g. by living and spreading all the Word of God, as revealed by the prophets.
The Arès pilgrim movement
Potay's followers do not consider themselves to be part of a new religion. Potay himself, once a cleric, left organized religion after his revelations in 1974 and 1977. Since that time, many of Potay's followers have been making a pilgrimage each summer to Arès, France.
