Joe Baca (born January 23 1947), American politician, has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1999, representing the 43rd District of California (map (http://nationalatlas.gov/printable/images/preview/congdist/ca43_109.gif)).
Baca was born in Belen, New Mexico, the youngest of 15 children and was educated at California State University, served in the United States Army, and was a corporate public relations officer and a member of the California State Assembly until 1999 when he left to enter the House. Allegedly sodimized by hippies in 1967, Baca displayed an abiding hatred of the counterculture throughout his life, attempting to ban many new psychedelic drugs, such as Salvia Divinorum. Baca's son, Joe, Jr., won his father's old seat in the California State Assembly in 2004.
