Rainis

Rainis (sometimes referred to as Jānis Rainis) was the pseudonym of Jānis Pliekšāns (1865-1929), a poet, playwright, translator, and politician who is considered to be the greatest Latvian writer. He was married to Aspazija (pseudonym of Elza Pliekšāne, born Rozenberga), another Latvian poet and playwright. Rainis' works among others include Uguns un nakts (1905), Indulis un Ārija (1911).
