Pseudo-Eratosthenes

Pseudo-Eratosthenes or (Ps.-Eratosthenes) is the name commonly given to the author of the Katasterismoi ('Catasterims' or 'Constellations') dated to 1st or 2nd century CE.
The work is a purported summary of an earlier work of the same name attributed to the true Eratosthenes but possibly falsely. Chapters 1–42 gives the mythology of 42 separate constellations or star goups including the Pleiades and chapters 43–44 covers the five planets and the Milky Way. The work cites in some places the lost Astronomia attributed to Hesiod.
A modern translation is available in Star Myths of the Greeks and Romans: A Sourcebook by Theony Condos (Grand Rapids, Michigan: Phanes Press, 1997) ISBN 1890482927 (hb); ISBN 1890482935 (pb). This translation has been criticized both as translation and for using an unreliable edition of the text.
