The current president is Svetozar Marović of Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro. He is the first president of new state union inaugurated on March 7 2003.
The President's incumbencies are:
- to represent country at home and abroad
- to chair the Council of Ministers
- to proposes the composition of the Council of Ministers to the parliament
- to appoint and recall heads of diplomatic and consular missions
- to receive letters of credence and recall from foreign diplomatic representatives
- to confer medals and other decorations
- to promulgates laws passed by the Assembly of Serbia and Montenegro
- to call for elections for the Assembly of Serbia and Montenegro
The President of Serbia and Montenegro is a member of the Supreme Defence Council together with President of Serbia and President of Montenegro.
