Pomare II

Tu Tunuiea'aite-a-tua Pomare II (also Pomare II)(1782 - 1821) was the king of Tahiti between 1782 and 1821. He was installed by his father Pomare I at Tarahoi, 13th February 1791. He ruled under regency from 1782 to 1803.
Recognised as supreme sovereign and Ari'i-maro-'ura by the ruler of Huahine.He was forced to take refuge in Moorea 22nd December 1808,but he returned and defeated his enemies at the battle of Te Feipi, 15th November 1815.He was thereafter recognised as undisputed King (Te Ari'i-nui-o-Tahiti) of Tahiti, Moorea and its dependencies.He was baptised 16th May 1819 at the Royal Chapel, Papeete.He maried first before March 1797(betrothed January 1792) to Queen Tetua-nui Taro-vahine Ari'i of Varari.(She died at Arue, 21st July 1806).He died at Motu Uta, Moorea, 7th December 1821.
