Polypropylene
|
Polypropylene is a thermoplastic polymer, used in a wide variety of applications, including Australian banknotes. Polypropylene is unusually resistant to many chemical solvents, bases and acids.
Although the increased crystallinity of polypropylene makes the material less tough than polyethylene, it also provides polypropylene with a higher flexural modulus, and tensile properties much higher than polyethylene. This allows polypropylene to be used as a replacement for engineered thermoplastics, such as ABS. (Polypropylene can be stretched and can recieve more tension that some other plastics)
Polypropylene has a melting point of 320 degrees farenheit and 160 degrees celsius. It will not melt in the dishwasher. I also does not absorb water and is used as a plastic and a fiber.
Polyethylene is the simplest of commonly used plastics.
