Pirate Act

The Pirate Act is a bill before the United States Senate that would let federal prosecutors file civil lawsuits against suspected copyright infringers. The bill was introduced by Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT).
The main backer of this legislation is the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
