Piggy-back
|
Something that is piggy-backed is something that is riding on the back of something else. To piggy-back (or to go on a piggyback ride) is to ride on someone's back. This expression is used in several contexts, not least in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science and structural geology.
Piggy-back is also a term used in distribution strategies. In this context it means that a company who desires to expand his markets searches for an partnership with a company (abroad) who offers complementary products to its own products. In the case of piggy-back company A will grant company B access to its distribution channel structure. Vice versa company B will grant company A access to its distribution channel structure. This way both companies can expand their markets. The principle is a variation to the principle of cross selling.
