Template:GBmap Petworth is a small town in West Sussex, England. It is best known as the location of the stately home Petworth House, the grounds of which (known as Petworth Park) are perhaps Capability Brown's most famous work.
Petworth House and its grounds are now owned and maintained by the National Trust.
Petworth is also a neighborhood in the Northwest quadrant of Washington DC. Two sets of real estate developers purchased the lands of the Petworth estate and the Marshall Brown estate. The neighborhood bloomed with the expansion of the streetcar line up Georgia Avenue (then known as Seventh Street Extended or Brightwood Avenue) from Florida Avenue (Boundary Street) to the Washington DC line at Silver Spring, Maryland. Today, the neighborhood is primarily residential with a mix of townhouses and single-family homes.
