Peter Jones (June 12 1920 - April 10 2000) was an English actor, born at Wem in Shropshire.
He was most noted for his lead role in the TV sitcom The Rag Trade and his elegant repartee on the BBC Radio 4 programme, Just a Minute.
Jones was also the voice of The Book in the original BBC radio and subsequent television adaptations of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
In addition to starring in a number of television series, such as Holby City and The Bill, Jones starred in a number of features films, including Chariots of Fire and The Return of the Pink Panther.
He was also a talented scriptwriter. His daughter, Selena Carey-Jones, is herself an actress.
