Peter Ainsworth

Peter Michael Ainsworth (born 16 November 1956) is the Conservative Member of Parliament for East Surrey. He was first elected in the 1992 general election with the retirement of Sir Geoffrey Howe from the House of Commons.
He was educated at Ludgrove, Wokingham; Bradfield College, Berkshire, and Lincoln College, Oxford.
Career
- 1979-1981 research assistant to Sir John Stewart-Clark.
- 1981-1992 financial analyst.
- 1992-1996 backbencher.
- 1996-1997 Government whip.
- 1997-1998 Opposition whip.
- 1998-2002 Shadow secretary of state for culture, media and sport.
- 2001-2002 Opposition spokesman on the environment.
He is married with 2 daughters and a son.
