A peak is a mountaintop that has been modified by the action of ice during glaciation and frost weathering. Ice fields develop bowl shaped basins in the sides of a mountain called cirques. These encroach on each other to produce ridges known as arêtes. The meeting of three or more arêtes forms a peak.
Peak is also the British English term for the part of a hat known as the visor in American English.
