Pavlovskiy Posad

Pavlovsky Posad (Павловский Посад, Pavlovskiy Posad, Pavlovskij Posad) is a town in Moscow Region, Russia, center of the Pavlovo-Posadsky District, Moscow Oblast. Is located on a junction of Klyazma river and little Vohna River.
History
The town was created in the late 18 century as a merge of 3 villages. The place was always famous for it's businesses, since from the very beginning the land on which the town stands belonged to the Russian Orthodox Church. Later the land came to the Tsar family. Because of this pecularity of the place Pavlovsky Posad have never known russian serfdom.
In the 19 century (and till the modern time) the town was famous for it's shawls. There were several factories in the town, producing shawls and kerchiefs with beautiful patterns on them. A museum of shawls is now located in the town.
Several famous people originate from Pavlovsky Posad. Among them are:
- Gerasim Kurin - a hero of the 1812 year war
- Vasily Gryaznov - local saint
