Patricia Wrede

Patricia Collins Wrede (pronounced "REED-ee") is an American fantasy writer, born 1953 in Chicago, Illinois; she is the eldest of five children.

She married James Wrede in 1976; they divorced in 1991. She obtained an MBA from University of Minnesota in 1977. She finished her first book in 1978, working as an accountant and financial analyst in the meantime. In January 1980 she was a founder member of The Scribblies who also included Pamela Dean, Emma Bull, Will Shetterly, Steven Brust and Nate Bucklin. She sold her book to Ace in April 1980 and it was published in 1982. In that year she met Lilian Stewart Carl who introduced her to Lois McMaster Bujold. In 1985, shortly before her fifth book was published, she became a full-time writer. She is a member of the Liavek shared-world anthology.

She is a vegetarian and lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota with her three cats. She has no children of her own, but has a claim to at least four nieces and four nephews.

Lyra

These books share a common setting on a world named Lyra, and are listed here in chronological order rather than by publication. As the books are only loosely connected, they may be read in any order, though order of publication is probably preferable.

The Enchanted Forest Chronicles

This series features Princess Cimorene, as she becomes a dragon's princess, rescues said dragon, falls in love, and ultimately saves the Enchanted Forest. It is usually marketed for young adults. The fourth book (told from the perspective of Cimorene's son, Daystar) was published first, but is considered to properly go last in the series.

Regency fantasy

Two loosely-connected series of books set in a Regency-era world with magic.

Cecelia and Kate

with Caroline Stevermer

The authors' tell these stories from a first-person perspective, as cousins Kate and Cecelia write back and forth, recounting their adventures in magic and polite society. The authors plan to write a third book, set ten years after The Grand Tour, but the title and release date are unknown as of yet.

Magic and Malice

"Mairelon" is a gentleman wizard with unusual talents, and Kim is his street waif protégé. Together, they foil plots and generally get into trouble.
