Paleocontact theory
|
Paleocontact theory is a term used to describe the hypothesis that intelligent extraterrestrial creatures visited earth in the distant past or at the dawn of human civilization. Carl Sagan, I.S. Shklovskii, and Hermann Oberth are three notable scientists who have seriously considered the possibility of extraterrestial visitations in earth's past.
No conclusive evidence of extraterrestrial presence in pre-history has as yet been discovered. Serious study of the hypothesis has been hampered by ancient astronaut theories, pseudo-scientific spin-offs of the hypothesis which came to prominence in the late 1960's and 1970's.
