Our lake
|
"Our lake" was a jingoistic term once used within the British Royal Navy to refer to the seven tenths of the Earth's surface covered by salt water. It appears to have been a humorous play on the label the Roman Empire gave to the Mediterranean Sea - Mare Nostrum or 'Our Sea'.
With the rise of the US Navy and the imperial fleet of Japan, the term fell out of Royal Navy usage some time between World War I and World War II.
