Orange Catholic Bible
|
A fictional book from the Dune novels of Frank Herbert, the Orange Catholic Bible is one of the most important religious texts in the Dune universe. It is supposed to be a fusion of all significant religious thought in human history, viz "the Maometh Saari, Mahayana Christianity, Zen-Sunni Catholicism and Budd-Islamic tradition". According to the glossary in the paperback edition of Dune, its supreme commandment is considered to be "Thou shalt not create a machine in the image of man's mind".
In Dune, Doctor Yueh gives Paul Atreides his copy of the OCB during their initial trip to Arrakis. This copy is a space-traveler's miniaturized edition of the tome, set in tiny print on fragile pages made from electrostatic film.
