Operation Apollo
|
Operation Apollo was an operation of the Canadian Navy in support of the United States in its military operations in Afghanistan. The operation took place from October 2001 to October 2003. The naval force consists of the Halifax-class frigates Montréal and Winnipeg stationed in the Arabian Sea.
Two ships—the frigate HMCS Fredericton and the destroyer Iroquois— will replace the ships in the Arabian Sea. The departure of the Iroquois was delayed when its H-3 Sea King helicopter lost power and crashed into the deck.
The Halifax, Charlottetown, Preserver, Vancouver, Ottawa, Toronto, St. John's, Protecteur and HMCS Calgary have previously completed tours of duty in the operation.
