The municipality is composed of 19 parishes, and is located in the District of Aveiro.
The present Mayor is Ápio Carlo Cláudio Assunção (Social Democrat) and the President of the Municipal Assembly is Hermínio José Gonçalves (Social Democrat).
The municipal holiday is the second Monday of August.
