He was the first born of Tatiana and Nicolae Stănescu (he says that is born "from a Romanian peasant arrived to town and a Russian woman"). His name is after his grandfathers. Highschool at Ploieşti. Philosophy in Bucharest (1957). His debut at "Tribuna". He is editor at "Gazeta literară", "Romānia liberă", "Luceafărul". Editorial debut: "Sensul iubirii" ("Luceafarul" collection, 1960). Prizes for poetry. The most important is Herder Prize (1975). Also a nomination for the Nobel prize, in 1980. A reckless life cost him a lot: he died at the age of 50. He left us a legendary name and some of the most important books in the postbellic literature: "O viziune a sentimentelor", "Dreptul la timp", "11 elegii", "Alfa", "Oul şi sfera", "Necuvintele", "Un pamānt numit Romānia".
Quote:
"The only real things which we are taking with us in the end are our own feelings, our loves, our hates and adversities. I ask myself: at the end of life, what will we leave outside? I suppose we can leave some feelings. Less of hate, some of passion, but... especially of love."
