New Hampshire Supreme Court
|
The New Hampshire Supreme Court is the supreme court of the U. S. state of New Hampshire, and its sole appellate court. It is also the administrative authority over the state's system of lower courts.
The Court's members are its chief justice and four associate justices, all of whom are appointed by the Governor and the Executive Council. One recent notable alumnus of the Court is United States Supreme Court Justice David Souter, who served on the Court from 1983-1990.
The Concord-based Court has recently seen a change in its appellate load, resulting from a switch from discretionary review of most cases to mandatory review. The change (http://www.courts.state.nh.us/press/newappellat.htm), implemented in 2004, was spurred by complaints that discretionary review, coupled with the lack of an intermediate appellate court, deprived citizens of access to any appellate review of trial court decisions.
