Neil Mallon Bush (born January 22, 1955 in Midland, Texas) is the son of former President George Herbert Walker Bush and Barbara Bush (Barbara Lane Pierce) and younger brother of President George Walker Bush and Governor Jeb Bush. He was on the board of directors of Silverado Savings and Loan during the 1980s and was a focal point of publicity stemming from the savings and loan crisis (The failure of Silverado cost the federal taxpayers $1 billion). No criminal charges were presented against Bush and a civil action brought against him and the other Silverado directors by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation was settled. Bush was fined $50,000 and restricted from future banking activity.
Neil and his former wife, née Sharon Smith, were married for 23 years. They are now divorced. They are the parents of three children; Lauren Bush (a model), Pierce, and Ashley. Neil was remarried on March 6, 2004 to Maria Andrews in Houston, Texas.
Neil was named after a good friend of the family, Henry Neil Mallon, chairman of Dresser Industries, George Herbert Walker Bush's employer (Mallon had himself been hired by George Herbert Walker, George Bush's grandfather). As a child Neil spent some summers and holidays at his family's estate in Maine, the Bush Compound.
In 1999 Bush cofounded an educational-software company, Ignite!, which uses "multiple intelligences" methods to provide varying types of content to appeal to multiple learning styles.
