Necanicum River
|
The Necanicum River is river on the Pacific coast of northwest Oregon in the United States, approximately 21 mi (34 km) long. It drains a timber-producing area of the Coast Range northwest of Portland. It forms the first estuary south of the mouth of the Columbia River along the Oregon Coast.
It rises in south central Clatsop County, south of Saddle Mountain State Natural Area at an elevation of 1360 ft (415 m). It flows briefly southwest, then west, followed by U.S. Highway 26, a primary route to the Oregon Coast. Approximately 3 mi (5 km) from the coast, east of Tillamook Head, it turns north to flow parallel to the coast. It enters the Pacific at Seaside, approaching the ocean in a nearly parallel course so as to bisect the town of Seaside lengthwise.
