Mount Keira
|
Mount Keira is a mountain in the Illawarra escarpment, a tall fold created by sub-continental movements a long time in the past.
Mt. Keira is situated northwest the city of Wollongong, NSW, Australia by about 3 miles. It is 439.9 metres high.
Its shape changes from which viewpoint one looks at it. It is flatter at the top and has several outgoing headlands which eventually turn into its foothills, including the 250 metre high hill named Mount Nebo which has a housing development and reservoir. From the town of Thirroul it looks like Mt kembla, rather pointed, as opposed as from Wollongong it looks rather flat topped.
Of course due to the strong debate on whether mountains and hills are separated and how, Mount Keira by some is classed as a hill. Generally a mountain, to be official, has to have at least two climatic zones, and be at least 600 metres high.
