Michiel Smit (Maasland, Netherlands 21 August 1976) is a Dutch politician and leader of Nieuw Rechts, a far right party accused of racism.
Michiel Smit was elected to the Rotterdam city council in 2002 as a member of Leefbaar Rotterdam. He was one of the most right-wing voices in the party and was known for his right-wing populist views and contacts with the Flemish Vlaams Blok. In the Dutch national elections of January 2003 Smit held the number two spot on the conservatieven.nl list. In February of 2003 came into conflict with Leefbaar Rotterdam leader Ronald Sorensen and decided to leave the faction. After leaving he founded a new party Nieuw Rechts.
