Merkabah

A Merkabah (also called a Merkabah Rider) is a Jewish mystic who would fast and pray to reach an ecstatic trance. While in this trance, the Merkabah could send his soul to the heavenly hall in an attempt to reach the Throne of Glory. This was dangerous for the Merkabah, however, as throughout the journey, his soul was tormented by demons, but the Merkabah could enlist the aid of other angels to ward off the demonic tormentors.
