Medium fighter

In the universes of Wing Commander and Renegade Legion, a medium fighter is a compromise between the speed and agility of a light fighter and the armor and firepower of a heavy fighter. Medium fighters can either be inexpensive and do neither task particularly well (like the Hellcat V) or be very expensive and do both exceptionally well (like the F-44 Rapier). Medium fighters in the latter category are sometimes called "superfighters."
