Mechanized military unit
|
Motorized military units are military units that have trucks, or other wheeled, un-armoured transport as an integral part of their organization.
Mechanized military units have an integrated armored transport capability, usually all-terrain tracked vehicles.
For example, mechanized infantry are foot soldiers who have dedicated armored personnel carriers, or infantry fighting vehicles at their disposal (e.g., U.S. Bradley Fighting Vehicles or Soviet BMPs). Such units are able to keep up with the pace of armoured warfare, and are protected against small arms and artillery shrapnel. In the U.S. army, some mechanized units are dubbed Armoured Cavalry.
