"Me and Bobby McGee" is a song written by Kris Kristofferson and Fred Foster, originally performed by Kristofferson and is one of the most-covered songs of all time. The best known recordings of "Me and Bobby McGee" are by Janis Joplin on her 1971 Pearl album and the Grateful Dead's Skull & Roses album, also released in 1971. Joplin's version topped the charts to become the only the second posthomous number one single in Rock & Roll history.
The song was also recorded by Gordon Lightfoot and Olivia Newton-John.
