Marilyn Burns (b. July 5, 1956) Actress, best known for her role in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974).
In The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, directed by Tobe Hooper, Burns plays Sally Hardesty, a teenager who, along with her brother and some friends, travels to a graveyard to investigate reports of grave vandalism (her grandfather is buried there).
Burns was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, and raised in Houston,Texas and always had an interest in the arts. During the seventh grade she appeared in a production of A Midsummer Nights Dream. In 1970, she made her first film appearance in the Robert Altman movie Brewster McCloud. While attending the University Of Texas, Marilyn joined the film commission board there.
After the success of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre she again acted under the direction of Hooper in the film Eaten Alive. In 1976, Burns got a role in the television mini-series Helter Skelter, about the real life trial of Charles Manson and several others; she played Linda Kassabian, a member of the "Manson family" who was granted immunity in exchange for her testamony against the defendants. Burns had a few roles in the eighties (Kiss Daddy Goodbye, Future Kill) and had a cameo in Return Of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1994), which would be her last film appearance, as of January 2005.
She currently lives in Texas and is active in community theatre.
