Manfred Rommel (born December 24, 1928) is a German politician (CDU), who was Mayor of Stuttgart from 1974 until 1996. He is one of the most popular local politicians of the CDU.
He is the only child of the WWII Field Marshal Erwin Rommel. Before he became mayor, he studied law and made a career as a high-ranking civil servant and state secretary in the state government.
He was famous for allowing the bodies of Red Army Faction members who have committed suicide in prison be buried together in Stuttgart despite fears that the grave could turn into a rallying point for socialist activists.
