Mandolin (cooking)
|
A mandolin is a "rectangular, sleek, slicing tool with a razor-sharp blade". According to chef Christine Cushing, the mandolin is perfect for "thinly slicing vegetables and some fruits; it is the ideal tool for preparing scalloped potatoes."
The tool, originally made by the French with stainless steel, it has been popularized among non-professional and casual cooks, in the form of a Japanese-made plastic version, sans many of the attachments.
