Magnate

For a wealthy or powerful business baron, executive, or tycoon, see business magnate
Magnate is a title of nobility commonly used in Sweden, Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and some other medieval empires. This term appears to take particular significance when considering the post carolingian area in the early medieval period.
In medieval times, a bishop sometimes held territory as a magnate, collecting revenue of the manors and the associated knights fees. The income was superior compared with the wage of other common peasants. ==See also ==
