Mäntsälä is a municipality of Finland.
It is located in the province of Southern Finland and is part of the Uusimaa region. The municipality has a population of 18,034 (April 30th 2005) and covers an area of 595.98 km2 of which 15.01 km2 is water. The population density is 30.1 inhabitants per km2.
Mäntsälä lies about 60 km to north from Helsinki, the capital of Finland. Population has increased rapidly. During few last years, increase has been one of the highest in Finland, when compared to population. A new railroad is being built, and passenger traffic will begin on September 9th 2006 from Mäntsälä. Helsinki will be about 40 minutes away, and Lahti even closer.
Mäntsälä is considered to be founded in 1585, when the community's first church was built.
Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld is considered to be originally from Mäntsälä, although he was born in Helsinki and lived also in Sweden.
The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
