This is a list of ships of the line of the United States Navy. Because of the operating expense, a number of these were never launched, but were maintained on the stocks, sometimes for decades, in case of an urgent need.
- America - given to France upon launching in 1782
- Chippewa - laid down 1814, but never launched
- Columbus - 1819 to 1861
- Delaware - 1820 to 1861
- Franklin - 1815 to 1852
- Independence - 1814 to 1912, razeed 1836
- New Hampshire (1864) - originally Alabama, launched as stores and depot ship, then a training ship to 1892
- New Orleans - incomplete on ways until 1883
- New York - laid down 1820, burnt on ways 1861
- North Carolina - 1820 to 1866
- Ohio - 1820 to 1875
- Pennsylvania - 120 guns, the largest sailing ship of the Navy; 1837 to 1861
- "Stevens Battery" (not launched) - BU 1881
- Vermont - 1848 to 1901
- Virginia - laid down 1822, broken up on ways 1874
- Washington - 1814 to 1843
