List of free Go programs

The following is a list of free (as in beer) computer programs for playing Go. Some are also free software.
Windows
- 19x19
- Aya (http://www32.ocn.ne.jp/~yss/) Freeware program estimated at 10 kyu strength by the author.
- GNU Go Being part of the GNU project, its full source code is available under the GNU General Public License. Tends to be considered the stronger of the programs listed here, ranking between 10 and 15 kyu. [1] (http://www.gnu.org/software/gnugo/gnugo.html)
- Moyoman (http://www.moyoman.org/) A new open source Go playing program written in Java, and released under the Apache Software License version 2.0. The program is currently very weak, and development appears to have stalled.
- TurboGo (http://www.turbogo.com/text/welcome_e.html) A binary (executable) is provided free of charge. Source code seems not to be publicly available.
- WinHonte (http://www.jellyfish-ai.com/winhonte.htm) A binary (executable) is provided free of charge. Source code seems not to be publicly available.
- 9x9
- Go game machine (http://www.nihonkiin.or.jp/lesson/index2-e.htm) from the Nihon Ki-in.
- SmartGo (http://www.smartgo.com/download.htm)
- Igowin (http://www.smart-games.com/igowin.html) Freeware version of The Many Faces of Go.
Mac OS X
- GNU Go See description above.
- Moyoman (http://www.moyoman.org/) See description above.
- Sen:te Goban (http://www.sente.ch/software/goban/) Free graphical user interface that can be used to play against GNU Go or other human players across the internet or a local network. FreeGoban (http://www.sente.ch/software/goban/freegoban.html), a free software derivative with less functionality (only allows playing against GNU Go) is distributed under the GNU General Public License.
Linux
Palm Os
- Go 81 (http://www.cis.hut.fi/praiko/go81/) Has AI opponent, but only plays in 9x9 or 13x13
- Go for PalmOS (http://www.lirmm.fr/~kiss/Go/) Can play in 19x19. Requires Os 3.5 or Higher
- Weichiango (http://www.freewarepalm.com/games/weichiango.shtml) Requires color display
DOS
- HandTalk (http://www.yutopian.com/go/download.html) Free 9x9 version. Commercial version can do 9x9, 13x13, and 19x19.
- Igo (http://www.smart-games.com/igo.html) DOS predecessor to Igowin. 9x9 only.
- EZ-Go (http://www.britgo.org/gopcres/gopcres1.html) Cut-down version of Bruce Wilcox's EGO. You can choose between 19x19 or 9x9 boards.
- Augos4 for DOS (http://www.augos.com/go/augoseng.html) Full 19x19 board with AI opponent. Free to download. Source not available. German language version only.
