Lilith Sternin
|
Lilith Sternin is a fictional character from the United States television show Cheers, played by Bebe Neuwirth. She first appeared in the fourth season, and fell in love and married fellow psychiatrist Frasier Crane. She changed her name to "Dr. Lilith Sternin-Crane" and they had a son together named Frederick Crane.
Lilith was an almost soullessly unemotional and restrained woman, with tightly pulled back black hair, pale skin, and a monotone voice, who always dressed in drab, conservative clothing. A recurring joke was that beneath the cold exterior simmered a wild, voracious sexual appetite that would burst out on occasion (though still typically in a monotone voice). The naming of her character may be a humorous reference to the female demon Lilith from ancient Hebrew and Mesopotamian accounts. This is fitting since she is Jewish.
The characters were divorced between the time Cheers ended (due to her having an affair in the shows final year) and the time the spinoff, Frasier, began. Lilith made occasional appearances on Frasier. There were some small plotlines involving the character: she married again - that didn't work out either, as her husband sought a more feminine person (and fell in love with another man).
Finally she moved with her son back to Boston.
