Liberal Democrat Youth and Students (LDYS) are the youth and student group of the UK Liberal Democrats.
LDYS consists of all Liberal Democrat party members under 26 years old and any older members attending higher education institutions. The group is financially supported by the Liberal Democrat party and have offices in the party headquarters in London, but retains total operational control over its internal elections, staffing, and campaigns.
LDYS was created in the early 1990s out of various predecessor youth and student groups of the Liberals and SDP. Their most notable forebears are the Young Liberals of the 1960s and 1970s, who were a significant and radical force within the Liberal Party of the time.
Currently LDYS are opposing top-up fees in British universities, but they have had little success within the National Union of Students. They are also well-known for proposing radical policies at the Party's conferences, which are often passed.
