Left Democrats (Sweden)
|
Vänsterdemokraterna, or literally the Left Democrats, is a political party in the municipality of Gnesta in Sweden. The party was formed on March 28, 2004 when the local branch of Vänsterpartiet, or Left Party, voted to leave the mother party. The mother party did however rapidly refound a branch in Gnesta, larger than the pre-split branch.
The move follows on an internal power struggle between the right-wing and left-wing factions of the party that culminated with the election of Lars Ohly as party leader in early 2004, a resounding victory for the left-wing.
The party holds on to the two seats in the Gnesta municipal assembly.Template:Poli-stub
