|
Laseractive was a Laser-disc based Game Console created by Pioneer. It used plugin modules necessary to play games and was capable of playing Mega Drive/Sega Genesis and PC-Engine/TurboGrafx Games and CDs in addition to Laseractive games.
The system was released in the United States in 1993 and cost several thousand dollars. Sales were slow and only a handful of games saw a U.S. release while many more were released in Japan. The system's library consisted mostly of full motion video games similar to Dragon's Lair.
The system could play several different formats of games. The system was able to play laserdisc movies and audio compact discs out of the box.
There were also several add on modules, known as PACs, released for the system both in the United States and Japan. These PACs allowed the system to fufill different functions and play several different types of Sega and NEC video games.
