Lachine
|
Lachine is a specific referring to a number of places in the Montreal area:
- Lachine, Quebec, now a borough of Montreal;
- the Lachine Rapids;
- the Lachine Canal;
- the Lachine Canal National Historic Site;
- The Fur Trade at Lachine National Historic Site.
The name comes from the French la Chine, "China," a derisive reference to Robert Cavelier de La Salle's belief that beyond the Lachine Rapids was a sea route to the Orient.
