Kyzyl Kum

The Kyzyl Kum (Uzbek: red sand; also called Qyzylqum) is a desert in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
It is located near the city of Bukhara. It covers about 298,000 km2 (approximately 115,000 square miles), making it the 11th largest desert in the world. It is known to have deposits of gold and natural gas. There are agricultural settlements along the rivers and oases.
