Krasnoarmeysky District is located in the center of Primorsky Krai, Russia. The District center is Novopokrovka village. The first settlements in the District were Novopokrovka, Lukyanovka, Goncharovka, and others, which appeared in the very beginning of the 20th century. The climate conditions of the Krasnoarmeysky District sharply differ from those on the coast. Sikhote-Alin mountain range is a very natural barrier which blocks the penetration of the monsoonal winds from the south and the east, forming a specific microclimate of the District. Frosts of -40-42°C (-40-44°F) are very frequent in winter, in summer the heat is over +30°C (86°F). The mean annual temperature is -10°C (14°F) (compare with +5°C (41°F) in South of Primorsky Krai). Nevertheless the population of the District grows apples, plums, cherries, and watermelons in spite of the severe climate conditions.
Tungsten and timber, fur and gold are produced in the District. The Primorsky Ore Mining and Processing Enterprise operates in the area.
The Sikhote-Alin newspaper is published in the District.
