Keihoku, Kyoto

Keihoku (京北町; -cho) was a town located in Kitakuwada District, Kyoto, Japan. The town was the second largest among the town and villages in the Kyoto Prefecture. The town was entirely on the Tamba plateau. Ninety percent (90%) of the area was coverd in forest. The town, being surrounded by mountains, had an inland climate with cool summers, cold winters, and a huge amount of precipitation.
As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 6,362 and a density of 29.23 persons per km². The total area was 217.68 km².
Merged into Kyoto City on 1 April 2005, Keihoku is no longer an independent municipality.
