Kate Hoey

Catharine Letitia Hoey, known as Kate Hoey (born June 21, 1946) is a Labour Party politician in the United Kingdom. She has been the member of Parliament for Vauxhall since a by-election in 1989.
She was Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Home Office from 1998 to 1999, and Minister of Sport in the Department of Culture, Media and Sport from 1998 to 2001. She continues to be active in promoting Olympics 2012 in London and sport in schools, as well as gun politics in the UK as it affects training and participation in international shooting competitions. Other major issues for her are affordable housing, top-up tuition fees, foundation trust hospitals and provision for pensioners. She was also a well-known opponent of the ban on fox hunting, active in The Middle Way parliamentary group along with Peter Luff, Lembit Opik and Llin Golding.
Hoey was educated at Belfast Royal Academy, Ulster College of Physical Education and City of London College. Prior to entering Parliament she was educational adviser to Arsenal Football Club from 1985 to 1989, and a senior lecturer at Kingsway College from 1976 to 1985.
