Kaka‘ako is the name of a commercial and retail district of Honolulu, Hawai‘i nestled between Ala Moana near Waikīkī to the east, downtown Honolulu and Honolulu Harbor to the west. Kaka‘ako is situated along the southern shores of the island of O‘ahu and features a vast stretch of waterfront.
Once a light industrial district with numerous dilapidated warehouses, in recent decades Kaka‘ako has been the focus of a major urban renewal effort, led by the Hawai‘i Community Development Authority.
The civic centers of Kaka‘ako are Victoria Ward Centers and the Neal S. Blaisdell Center. Across the street from Victoria Ward Centers is the newly constructed campus of the John A. Burns School of Medicine and the future home of the William S. Richardson School of Law. Other facilities currently under construction at Kaka‘ako are a state of the art aquarium, ocean science center and ocean park. Kaka‘ako is currently a hot bed of development with ambitious and modern image-setting projects. The main roads through Kaka‘ako are Ala Moana Boulevard and Kapi‘olani Boulevard.
