John Chandos
|
Sir John Chandos (died 1369) was an English knight.
Chandos was a close friend of Edward, the Black Prince, and a founder member of the Order of the Garter. After being given the viscounty of Saint-Sauveur in the Cotentin and being created the lieutenant of France and the vice-chamberlain of England, he became the constable of Aquitaine and seneschal of Poitou in France during the Hundred Years' Wars. Chandos was killed in a night skirmish against the French in 1369. The records of the Chandos herald (ie Sir John's own herald) are a valuable source for contemporary events.
